Packaged Air Conditioning Unit

Is a self-contained unit that provides cool air by direct expansion (DX) cooling by transferring heat from a space, utilizing a refrigerant.

This unit consists of a compressor, condensing coil, condenser fan, evaporator coil, expansion valve and evaporator fan.  The refrigerant cycle diagram is shown to the right.

Capacity

ACP’s come in various cooling capacities. Capacity is rated in heat removal capability in either BTUH or Tons.  One ton of cooling is equal to 12,000 BTUH. Typically One ton of cooling can cool 400 CFM of air down 25 degrees F.  Your application will require special consideration to size your cooling needs. Our sales-engineers can readily help you with this complicated task.

Here is a list of the available cooling capacities:

3 ton

5 ton

10 ton

12.5 ton

15 ton

20 ton

25 ton

30 ton

Skid or Trailer

Air Cooled Packaged  (ACP) comes in two ways, either in a skid or trailer. Skid mounted ACPs come fully enclosed in a metal frame,  with or without heavy-duty casters. Skided units may require a forklift to unload  and  load (if an adequate  forklift is not on site, we can arrange this as part of the rental quote. Trailer mounted ACPs come on a trailer that can be towed to your rental site. Either option should always be surveyed to determine if there is adequate outdoor  space at the site to locate unit and have adequate access to hookup, maintain and operate the unit.  The ACP units reject the hot air usually upward  vertically from the unit and can affect the surrounding area with hot air and sound and should also be considered when locating placement.

Electrical Power

ACP’s come in different power requirements, it is important to select the proper rental ACP based on the power available at the rental site.  Here are power the choices:

Normal residential power

120 volt, single phase

208 volt, single phase (25 – 50 amps)

Commercial / Industrial power

208 volt,  3 phase

230 volt, single phase

230 volt, 3 phase

460 volt, 3 phase

Typically 50 feet of cam lock power cable comes with each unit. It is the customer’s responsibility to provide source and connection to power up the unit. If more cable is required it can be supplied with rental at an additional cost.  It is important to know if the correct power is readily available onsite please have your electrician confirm the availability of power before choosing  the proper ACP unit.

If adequate power is not available, we can also provide a Generator at an additional cost as part of the rental. In this case we would also need to be sure there is adequare space for the generator near the rental equipment.

Flex Duct connections

Each ACP has 2 duct connections, one supply and one return. The unit needs to be as close to the space that will be conditioned.  The flex duct lengths should not exceed 50 feet whenever possible.  Longer lengths are possible but air flow will be affected dramatically if too long. The inlet and outlet flex ducts) should be straight as possible  to reduce friction losses (decreased air flow) and special consideration for access and egress should be considered. If units are connected to existing HVAC systems or ductwork, sheet metal fittings may be required, we can provide these as part of the rental quote for additional cost.

Other considerations and options

Remote start/stop switch – is available to start/stop unit from allocation up to 50 feet away.

Thermostat control – the temperature control for the unit is adjustable and is located on the unit.

Condensate – the cooling coil can condense moisture out of the air as it cools. A condensate drain is plumbed off the unit to allow this moisture to drain on to the ground.

Flex duct  exposed to outdoor conditions – Flex duct is not insulated and the supply air temperature can increase  as it passes through it especially if it long and exposed to higher temperatures.

Electric Heaters – Some ACPs have optional electric heaters that can be utilized if temperatures require heat to maintain temperature.

Security

While the rental unit is on your premises, La Brea Rentals requires that the rental equipment be located in a secured location. If not secured we can provide a secured fence at additional cost as part of the rental.

Typical Accessories  (supplied with each unit)

Flex Ducting – 25ft of supply and 25ft of return

Power Cabling – 50ft  of Cam Lock

Thermostat – dual control setting for either supply or return temperature control

Remote Start and stop switch
